Donaldsonville is a small city in and the parish seat of Ascension Parish in south Louisiana, located along the River Road of the west bank of the Mississippi River. Rich in history, Donaldsonville's historic district has what has been described as the finest collection of buildings from the antebellum era to 1933, of any of the Louisiana river towns above New Orleans.
Many people are unaware that Donaldsonville was actually the Louisiana State Capitol from 1829-1831. If Donaldsonville isn't where you decide to call home, we definitely recommend a day trip to take in the history and enjoy some of the South's best bread pudding at Grapevine Cafe.
