The Top 5 Communities In Ascension Parish
LOOKING FOR THE BEST COMMUNITIES IN ASCENSION PARISH? AS AN ASCENSION PARISH REAL ESTATE AGENT, ONE OF THE MOST COMMON QUESTIONS WE GET IS, "WHAT IS THE BEST COMMUNITY IN ASCENSION PARISH?" AND THE ANSWER IS... IT DEPENDS.

Town & Parish Realty's Top 5 Communities in Ascension Parish

Geismar

Originally, Geismar was known for its industrial development and the large presence of chemical plants and manufacturing facilities. As of late, Geismar is known for upscale neighborhoods located within some of the most desired school districts in Ascension Parish. The area is also known as Dutchtown, so if someone asks if you live in Dutchtown, they are talking about Geismar. Dutchtown is easier to say, right?

In the Dutchtown/Geismar area, you are just moments away from I-10 and can get to Baton Rouge or New Orleans fairly quickly. This makes living in this community great for commuters.

Gonzales

Ahhhh, Gonzales is known for its rich history and its downtown area, as well as the World Famous Jambalaya Festival! Gonzales is the heartbeat of Ascension Parish.  Jambalaya Park is where you will find lots of residents on the weekend. With the playground, the splash pad, the amphitheater, and the dog park, there is something for everyone.

There are homes for every budget in Gonzales. Whether you are a first-time homebuyer on a budget or someone looking to purchase your forever home, you will be pleased with the wide range of options.

Prairieville

Known for its picturesque tree-lined streets and its proximity to Baton Rouge. When the growth of Ascension Parish exploded, Prairieville was the first place to fill up with new construction homes. Being just over the East Baton Rouge Parish line, Prairieville made the most sense for people wanting to live in the suburbs but still be close to the city.

Like Gonzales, homebuyers will find a wide range of price ranges in Prairieville. Just remember, the closer to the parish line, the higher the prices. If you can go out about 5-10 more minutes, you will find the prices a bit lower.

Prairieville also seats some of the more sought-after school districts and will continue to grow in popularity with the construction of the new Prairieville High School.

Sorrento

If you are looking for a peaceful rural atmosphere, Sorrento is the place for you! Sorrento is located on the South end of Ascension Parish, making it a bit closer to New Orleans. There are many residents in Sorrento that commute to the chemical plants located near New Orleans.

Its proximity to the Blind River is a draw to the fishermen or leisure boaters. Blind River will take you right to Lake Maurepas for some weekend fun.

There are mostly rural homes in Sorrento, with just a sprinkling of established subdivisions. This is also a big draw to the area. Rural land is hard to find these days!

St. Amant

St. Amant is french for flood zone. LOL! Not really, but it's kind of a terrible real estate joke. Most of St. Amant sits in areas that will require flood insurance. Don't let that scare you though; there are plenty of fantastic properties in this community.

Known for its rural atmosphere, you will find homes with shops and homes with goats and chickens in the backyard. The best local honey is produced at a home in St. Amant!

St. Amant has a strong sense of community. When someone is in need, the whole community turns out to help. It's truly incredible.
